A) Wonderful autograph manuscript of the Ode Bismark, erroneously believed to be edited for the first time in Odi e Inni (1906) whilst, in reality, it could already be found, together with La Quercia d'Hawarden and La Favola del disarmo, in the tryptych Nel Presente and in Poemetti (1900). Pascoli depicts the German chancellor (who died in1898, two years before the Ode was published), as the symbol of the war's delirium that overshadows everything - religion, identity, moral values - and makes today's officers as cruel as Roman or Barbaric soldiers. ('Qual n'era il segno? Il vischio reo dell'elci / l'aquila adunca, il Cristo che perdono? / E furono le spade orma o le selci?). Extremely fascinating autograph document, as enclosing one of the more intense lyrics, under the moral and civil point of view, written by the author of La piccozza, opeining Odi e Inni (one page, 8vo) . B) Wonderful first edition of the Ad externos ephemeridum scnptores undique terrarum Romam convenientibus (to the foreign journalists). Plied folio, 16mo, with freizes similar to those used in the Fridericus Garlanda edition, Ex Officina Miliani assembled in the Carmina Volumen Alterum, 1930, p. 183. Also included in this lot is the autograph Italian translation by the editor and phylologyst Federico Garlanda (1857-1913), founder and director of Minerva magazine that published Pascoli's composition in Latin (folio, oblong, recto and verso).
