Current Lot Julian Symons (1912-1994) Precious original, autograph manuscript of the novel Sweet Adelaide published in 1980, one of the latest novels written by the English writer best known for The further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Bloody murders e The Colour of Murder (1957). Two notebooks: the first one consists of 61 numbered pages plus further 21 after a white intermediate page; the second one counts 112 pages numbered by the writers without intermediate white pages. The text is written in an elegant, fine calligraphy. However, corrections, amendments, cuts, changes made on the sequence of pages or parts of the text have been made. Enclosed to the manuscript are seven autograph pages (torn apart from the notebooks) which the sequential contents/chapters (provisional) of the book (which is entitled 'Plot'); six letters written by the author's correspondents; a green paper typed page entitled'Suggested blurb far Sweet Adelaide by Julian Symons'; and a few photocopies of pages of dictionaries, encyclopaedia and leaflets that were probably used by the author to write his novel. Al the papers are preserved in a paper bag with a white label stating: 'Manuscript of Sweet Adelaide. Including correspondence about the book, notes, and source materials'. This document is extremely valuable under the philological and literary point of view, as relating to the work of one of the brightest English writers of the twentieth century.
