Description
The item You are bidding on a very good condition vintage New York City subway rollsign segment. The signs The sign is made of oilcloth, a durable denim type cloth coated in resin or paint. It was actually used on the rails, as the amount of rail dust on the original (uncleaned) sign indicates. The sign is about 50+ years old. The subway The sign was made for and used on the New York City subway BMT Standard class cars which ran from 1915 to 1965. These cars have been retired from service. These genuine signs will not be produced ever again. The sign's readings The readings on this sign are: VIA BRIDGE THRUNASSAU LOOPVIA TUNNEL TO B'KLYN VIA TUNNELTHRUNASSAU LOOPVIA BRIDGE TO B'KLYN ASTORIA FOREST HILLS - QUEENS 36th ST. - 4th AV.DITMAS AV. The sign's condition VERY GOOD The sign's specs Width - 23.6"Height - 35.5" The mat's specs N/A The frame's specs Due to the cost of shipping a frame this size, 24"x36", and the fact that frames this size are readily available in most stores for less that $50.00, the frame is not included with this item. It would be much more cost effective for the buyer to purchase a ready-made 24x36 frame locally. Uses This sign would be a great gift for a subway enthusiast or a one-time New Yorker. It would look great hung in an office, a den as a unique piece of home decor, or a theme restaurant to give it an authentic and classic New York City feel. Similar Items This same type of sign contained several other readings also, many frequently available in my eBay store, see examples below. See my about page for more details.
