Description
Just in time for that early Christmas present! This is a George Harry Malone silver loose jaw spade. Harry malone is one of those bit makers that collectors seek because of the quality of the work and few numbers of pieces available. Harry was by profession a welder until 1950 when he began making bits and spurs. He was self taught, however his mentor was Abby Hunt and he spent a lot of time watching Abby work. Malone's style was greatly influenced by Abby Hunt and that can be seen in elements of his work such as the tear drop pattern. Malone's work can be identified by the four leaf flower, inlayed copper strips in the cricket, zig-zag border design and the flowed silver technique which Abby Hunt taught him. Harry Mallone made bits and spurs from 1950 until he died in 1968. This bit is complete with no breaks or repairs. The mouth is 5 inches and the spade stands 3 inches tall. The cheeks are 7 1/2 inches and the buttons are 1 1/8 inch across. The cricket is complete with no breaks. The bit is not maker marked, Harry Malone never marked his work. This is a great spade to add to any collection and could also be used as a very nice parade bit. Please ask any questions prior to bidding and thanks for looking. Postage and insurance on this bit is free. Item shipped USPS priority. On Nov-18-08 at 15:11:20 PST, seller added the following information:Between now and the end of November I have a house full of holiday guests and we are in and out constantly. Please excuse any delay in answering your questions. Thank you.
