JOE KOPCYCH GIRANDOLE BANJO WALL CLOCK STENNES CAMPOS Start Price USD 3,500.00 Current Price USD 3,500.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Friday, November 28, 2008 End Time Friday, December 05, 2008 Location Hampton, New Hampshire See more about 'JOE KOPCYCH GIRANDOLE BANJO WALL CLOCK STENNES CAMPOS' Description This clock is part of collection of a friend who is buying a house and will be raising some money for down payment through selling some of his collection.   This clock is a beautiful GOLD LEAF GIRANDOLE CLOCK WITH REVERSE PAINTED GLASS TABLETS made by JOE KOPCYCH in the 1970s.  When Elmer Stennes was tragically being killed in the height of his clockmaking fame, his estate was liquidated including a large number of Stennes complete clocks, empty cases, dials, glasses, and other parts for his clocks. This case, reverse painted glasses, eagle, and tail piece were bought at that auction and later purchased at a later date by Joe Kopcych who bought a Kilbourn and Proctor movement, which Stennes and Foster Campos used in their clock also. The movement is clearly stamped on the front plate "J. KOPCYCH" and a capital "G" below.  There is a number on bottom of front plate, "1 9 5 4" which might be a serial number from K & P but only guessing.  On the rear plate "MADE IN USA / K & P, Inc" (these makers also supplied Stennes with movements as well during the later part of his career.) The reverse painted glasses were beautiful executed by Tom Moberg.  You can see them in the photos clearly and they depict the Sun Goddess Aurora riding her flaming chariot across the sky.    The dial is proper Stennes unsigned dial with the typical Bee printged near the 6 o'clock.  Although, it apparently was made with Stennes parts, and the movement is one that Stennes may have used also, the case is nice grained mahogany. The eagle is gold leaf on metal possibly aluminum.  The throat and door are not marked so it is unknown who made these, Stennes, Campos or possibly Joe had them fabricated for his clock.  I am unaware who did Kopcych's gold leafing work but this clock is nicely leafed and is in a good state of preservation only having a small rub off on one ball at bottom right, a chip off a ball at upper left and a chip at ball at upper right of bottom door, and a small gold leaf loss at right wall edge of bottom carved pediment.  These are small issues and just a little leaf restoration necessary to make this clock mint.   This is a stunning clock and a good chance to get a fine Girandole for a reasonable price.   The collector purchased this clock at public auction for $4,840.00 2 years ago and will accept $4,500.00 starting bid.  It hopefuly will go for more.   Clock measures app. 44" on the wall, depth of bottom 5" and width of bottom is 13" across.  Head has an 8" dial and bezel measures 9" across.   Condition:   Except for the small spots of gold leaf loss in description, ready to be hung in your home for generations.  The clock has been cleaned and oiled professionally to runs perfectly.
