Description
Very rare Yasukuni-to by Ikeda Yasumitsu in like new original condition. Mei : Yasumitsu (Ura) Showa 10th year February (1935) (Omote) Nagasa : 67.00 cm Sori : 2.00 cm Hamon : Chu-suguha in nioi with ko-ashi Boshi : Ko-maru The sword is in the best original condition which I ever saw, it is like new. The blades workmenship is one of Yasumitsus early masterpieces. Blade in shirasaya and koshirae with mon and tsunagi without any flaws. This sword was stored over a half century at a high-ranking Japanese officer family (See registration paper of 1951 with lower registration number “Daimyo registration”). In July of 1933, the Army Minister Araki Sadao founded a group of swordsmiths called Nihonto Tanren Kai (Japanese Sword Forging Center) on the Yasukuni Shirine in Tokyo and supplied highly qualified Gunto to high rank officers. At the Yasukuni Shrine was the highest quality control, cutting test were practised with three out of ten of them. WWII was the largest Japanese war. At the Yasukuni shrine the last Samurai swords in traditional technology and in the spirit of the Bushido under high financial expenditure was forged, although some Milionen of old swords lay at the stores by the scrap irons dealers. Ikeda Yasumitsu (1879 - 1941) Born in Novembre 1879 in Yamagata Prefecture. Trained under Kazumitsu who came in a direct line from Shishinshi Masahide. Given the smith name “Yasumitsu” by War Minister Araki Sadao on 15th of December 1933 and died Showa 16 (1941). Produced an uncertain number of onkashi-to and one blade for the Emperor's brother. Produced about 1100 blades at Yasukuni. Fujishiro Okisato, Living national treasure, chose the Yasumitsu for the best Yasukuni tosho. This is an autstanding piece of history!
