Description
Fedex may be least expensive way to ship; email me with your zip code BEFORE buying this item and I'll get you a quote. This is an older, more unusual looking drip coffee maker from WEST BEND. It is their Kwik Drip Model, and it is a stove-top model—it is NOT electric and it is made of aluminum. It is an 18-cup unit. The grounds are placed in a well in the bottom of the top section (the inner portion with the raised stem resembling the letter "G" is removeable and you place the coffee grounds beneath it. Once you replace this inner piece, it sort of encapsulates the grounds, keeping them from mixing with the finished coffee). No filters are used since both the bottom portion of the upper chamber as well as it's inner piece has many fine holes, and this actually acts as the filter. Once you put the water into the top chamber, it drips down through the coffee grounds and ultimately as finished coffee - into the pot beneath. I wouldn't place the pot onto the stove burner until there is at least some coffee in the bottom pot. The rounded knob like projection on the side of the bottom pot is actually the spout. It is open on the bottom side of it and there is a small spout within. When the water all drains down from the upper chamber into the lower pot, the coffee is done. Remove the top chamber and take its lid and put it over the bottom section and serve. Unit does have some scuffing and scratches from storage and use, but overall it is in good condition; it is ideal for using everyday or for display. It would probably work on camping trips as well. Unit is 6” in diameter at the base, 10” wide at bottom portion from spout to wood handle, 8 ½” wide on top portion including handle, and overall height of 14 ¾” from base up to top of bakelite or plastic lid knob which says “WEST BEND.” It has various markings on the side of the upper chamber should you wish to make fewer than 18 cups of coffee with it. It is not the easiest nor the fastest way to brew coffee, but I just made a pot and it tasted great. You have to admit, the appearance is different and it looks great in a VINTAGE sort of way. It would be ideal as a prop on a shelf in your restored RETRO kitchen should you decide not to use it. Surely it is a conversation piece.
