It is in great condition considering its age and use. The dovetailed, maple push box is original to the piece. The cutting blades are slightly discolored but are certainly usable. What little light surface rust could easily be taken care of with a little steel wool. It is 27 ¾” long and 9” wide. The push box is 9” x 7 ¼” with 7” x 6” inside measurements and is 3” deep. If you’ve never had home made sauerkraut then this is the auction for you. My husband’s Polish grandmother used to shred two barrels worth for use over the long winter. He remembers going down to the cellar and bringing up bowls full for her to make kapusta, pierogies and other delicacies. When you had to feed a family of eleven you needed wooden barrels of cabbage. Now that there’s just the two of us we are forced to part with this treasure.
