It is in great condition considering its age and use. The dovetailed, maple push box is original to the piece. The cutting blades are slightly discolored but are certainly usable. What little light surface rust could easily be taken care of with a little steel wool. It is 27 ¾” long and 9” wide. The push box is 9” x 7 ¼” with 7” x 6” inside measurements and is 3” deep. Stenciled on the back is: 642 INDIANAPOLOIS KRAUT CUTTER PATENTS 78614-95837 TUCKER & DORSEY MFG. CO. INDIANAPOLIS, IND U.S.A. If you’ve never had home made sauerkraut then this is the auction for you. My husband’s Polish grandmother used to shred two barrels worth for use over the long winter. He remembers going down to the cellar and bringing up bowls full for her to make kapusta, pierogies and other delicacies. When you had to feed a family of eleven you needed wooden barrels of cabbage. Now that there’s just the two of us we are forced to part with this treasure. The maple that it is constructed from has held up very well and whether for use or display, this is a very nice vintage kitchen tool. Thanks for looking and Happy Ebaying!!
