Original and Historical !! This auction is for a very rare NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY ROLL SIGN with ORIGINAL CRANK CASE and in great condition for its age.  It appears as though this came from an R-15 subway car that was built in the late 1940's. It is marked on the end of the roll: "Side Route I.R.T. R-15 OCT 10 1949 Printed by Hunter Ill. Car Sign Co." The side of the metal case is marked "5815 #2 End" which I believe is the actual car number that it was removed from. The case also has a metal plate attached to the inside which reads: "The Hunter Illuminated Car Sign Co. Flushing, NY" along with numerous patent numbers. The dimensions are approximately 31-1/4" wide X 6" tall X 5-1/2" deep. Everything works fine and the roll itself is in very nice condition with some small nicks on the end. There is some minor wear on the original art deco type light greenish paint, but it adds to the character. IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE PICTURES PLEASE EMAIL ME.
