On January 16, 1969 artist Paul Calle was in the Apollo 11 pre-flight quarantine documenting one the most significant events in human history. Earlier, NASA had selected Paul to "capture the moment" of the historic Apollo 11 mission. And capture he did, this stunning graphite pencil sketch is one the last images of Commander Neil Armstrong before he left Earth to become the first human being to walk on another celestial body. In 1976 the National Air and Space Museum commissioned a limited edition of 1000 prints of the orginal housed in their collection Washington DC. The objective was to raise money for the Charles Lindburgh Memorial Fund. On Dec 23, 1976 Neil Armstrong and Paul Calle signed each print. The signed prints went on sale to general public in 1977 for $125.In January '08 Swann Auction galleries of NYC sold a copy in their Space auction for an astounding $7500, factoring in the 20% buyers commisson the print went for $9000!
