Description
You are bidding on a CONTEMPORARY REPRINT of the manual "Description and Maintenance Instructions Packard Merlin V1650-3, -7", Engineering Order number EO 10A-20A-2, Royal Canadian Air Force, dated 2 December 1949, revised 7 April 1953, about 140 pages with about 20 more supplemental information and change order pages. It appears to be missing one sheet at the very front that has introductory pages iii and iv. All other pages are present. There are five extra-wide fold-out pages, 3 of which are full-color illustrations. These are printed (or taped together) as 11x17 fold-outs. There are a number of other color pages in the manual that are printed on premium paper in full color. Chapters include Introduction, General Description, Table of Specifications, Preparation for Service or Storage, Engine Troubles and their Remedies, Adjustment, Replacement and Minor Repairs, Service Tools, Accessories, Emergency Repair or Replacement. There is page after page of very detailed images and description about the maintenance of these engines. These engines were built by the Canadian Packard factory from the original Rolls-Royce design. It is an astonishing piece of engineering, especially considering the era. It has a number of features that did not become commonplace in automobile engines until decades later, such as alluminum blocks with steel cylinder liners, 4 valves per cylinder, and more. The power-to-weight ratio is still quite respectable by modern standards (about 1 horsepower per cubic inch for a total of about 1600 horsepower). This V-12 engine represented the state of the art when it was built. This copy was scanned at high quality (300 lpm) from an original manual. All the pages have been hand-edited in Adobe Photoshop to remove marks and stains. Special care has been taken with the half-tone images to get the full depth and quality of the original. All the color pages have been printed in full color on premium (32 lb) paper. Manual is printed on 24 lb paper and comb-bound. This is NOT an original manual but a modern printed copy from a scan of an original manual. The original manual was not perfect - it was well-used. I have managed to clean up most of the pages, but there is the occasional oily thumbprint that I couldn't get out without wrecking what was underneath it. That notwithstanding, all the pages are clear and perfectly legible. Buyer to pay actual USPS shipping charges. PayPal preferred. Check or money order accepted.
