Description
pguariglia Store   POWDER HORN 1759 CAPT MASS REGIMENT REDUCTION OF CANADA DescriptionI have been fortunate to buy 3 American powder horns that were deacessioned 30 years ago by an upstate New York museum.  I will give the name of that institution to the winning bidder.  These 3 powder horns are 100% guaranteed to be authentic.  If you are not satisfied that they are as described you may return them. There are a lot of fake and altered powder horns.  These are not.The artistic work on these horns was done in the period, not added at a later time.  Two of these horns I believe have significant historical value. This powder horn belonged to a Jonathon Eddy.  Jonathon Eddy was a Captain in Col. Doty's regiment that fought for the reduction of Canada in in the 1750s. If you Goggle "Jonathan Eddy" you will find "The Bangor Historical Magazine " Vol IV no3 1888" where there is a long article on this soldier. The powder horn measures just under 14 inches long.  I believe it is steer or cow horn.  It has a wooden rounded cap at one end with a steel loop in the middle.  The horn is scrimshawed with Canada geese, 4 compass rose type devices and the head of an Indian.  It is reads "JONA EDDY 1759 PEMAQUID".Attached to the horn is part of the museum tag that reads sic "Powder horn dated 1759 ssd jona eddy (Pemaquid) Jonnathn Eddy was Captain in Col Doty's Regiment raised by Province of Mass. Bay for reduction of Canada".  On the reverse it reads "Mass Archives Muster Roll vol. 96, p8.273".  Also on the back is the Museums name and archive number in red.The condition of the horn is good with age appropriate wear etc.  There is however a 6 inch long tight hairline crack on one side.  This does not extend to the edges.  Again please see photos. There is no reserve. Please see my other auctions for other interesting antiques as well as the other two horns.  Shipping anywhere in the US via UPS Ground with full insurance is $10.00.  Shipping to Canada with USPS Express Mail International is $20 with full insurance.
