It is wooden, painted and stained, hand wash only, with wet cloth, it has been sprayed with protective coating, but do not immerse in water. It is a older wooden, roll top bread box, that I refurbished. There is some slight over spray, inside, the box, which is shown in the picture, but I sanded it down, it won't hurt anything.
