Description
WELCOME TO MERRYTHOUGHTS! Our weekly auction store is named for the word found in Dr. Johnson's Dictionary. A merrythought is a wishbone, a symbol of good luck. We like to play on this word since so many of our postcard images have a literary resonance. Presently we sell antique and vintage postcards, vintage holy cards, art cards, Victorian die cuts and trade cards, vintage greetings cards, and other interesting ephemera. We do not do reserve pricing and we rarely sell anything in less than good condition. Thanks for visiting, think MERRYTHOUGHTS, and good luck! COMMENT: Outstanding rare antique 12 page booklet entitled Tennyson Pictures by Walter Paget and Herbert Dicksee, two important 19th century illustrators (Paget illustrated many of Thomas Hardy's works) and published by Ernest Nister ca 1890. The booklet features pictures and commentary on several works by the great 19th century English poet Alfred Tennyson. We have scanned the first page of commentary to give you a sense of the tone of the writing, and we have scanned all but one of the accompanying pictures. The booklet is tied together by a silk ribbon and all pages have beautiful gold gilt edging. Great collector's item for Tennyson lovers, Nister collectors, 19th century ephemera collectors, or those who love great illustrations. SIZE: 6" x 8" PUBLISHER: Ernest Nister, London/E. P.
