Description
* * * * * UP FOR SALE is one of the most remarkable collections in the world! 9 of the BEST Early Film Posters from 1903 - 1912 - INCLUDING Buffalo Bill's WILD WEST. This collection was saved by the filmmaker and exhibitor Walter Barnsdale. The family saved this collection of posters after Walter died in the 1950s.   Walter Barnsdale entered into the moving picture business in 1903. Barnsdale was one of the early pioneers of the motion picture industry; he not only produced his own films but also created and patented his own mechanical devices to exhibit them. His contribution was critical to the advancement of the motion picture. A contemporary of Thomas Edison, Siegmund Lubin, and the Lumiere brothers. Barnsdale's Electric Moving Picture Co. The emphasis on electric. Much like the word DIGITAL is today, electricity was the new technology at the time, and just the use of the word ELECTRIC was a big selling point to the public. Barnsdale exhibited his own films as well as feature attractions, such as Buffalo Bill’s “Life of Buffalo Bill,” throughout Wisconsin with his traveling moving picture show.   William F. Cody better known as Buffalo Bill - one of the most important and celebrated people in the history of the United States. W.F. Cody at age 11 was the worlds first "Boy Scout." He fought as a U.S. Cavalry man throughout the entire Civil War. He also fought in and survived ALL of the Indian wars! It helped that he was the BEST rifle shot and rider of all men and held the world record for such. Buffalo Bill was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery! A frontier man, Cody was one of the original Pony Express riders and is also accredited with creating the form of entertainment known as The Wild West Show. Buffalo Bill was the most famous and the most photographed man of his time. In 1912, long before Charlie Chaplin, Buffalo Bill Cody became one of the very first screen stars if not the first screen star. Cody used the relatively new medium of the moving picture to document his Wild West show and reenactments of his famous adventures. Buffalo Bill himself made these motion pictures! Real wild west personalities Annie Okley and Cheif Sitting Bull were anong the legends whoarein these two films! Walter Barnsdale secured exclusive state rights to exhibit Buffalo Bill’s two moving pictures “The Life of Buffalo Bill” and “Life and Adventures of Buffalo Bill.”   This is a one-of-a-kind collection from the earliest part of the movie business.
