NOTE: Be sure that your PayPal account is up-to-date  with a CONFIRMED ADDRESS before you bid.        WHELK (BUSYCON) IN COQUINA MATRIX !! Rucks Pit, Ft. Drum Okeechobee County, Florida     Nashua Formation 1.6 - 2.3 Million Years  Size is 4 5/8" x 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" (Whelk is 4 5/8" Long) Weight is 11.3 ozs.   Personally found by me at Rucks Pit on May 28, 2005.               According to the geologists and other experts in the scientific community, these Whelks were NOT SUPPOSED to be at this location during this particular time period. The clams YES, but the whelks, NO.   To find a CALCIFIED Whelk shell INTACT at the pit is out right impossible, and to find it in the Coquina Matrix as you see it just doesn't happen. I have never seen any of the whelks from the pit as you see this one. MOST are broken, cracked, and are not in matrix. Indeed, this was the lottery find for me. I was told that my chances of winning the lottery were about equal to finding a piece like this one. Well, maybe and maybe not. I found this piece but I still haven't won the lottery.      Yes, it stands up by itself just as you see it pictured.   Needless to say, it is the ONLY ONE I have, and with the pit now closed you can bet there will not be any more. NOTE: The Calcite in this piece is FLUORESCENT under UV, and has PHOSPHORESCENCE momentarily after the UV light is turned off.   This PAN SHOT consists of 7 photos I took at the pit to create this PANORAMIC view looking from North to South. The DARK GREY area where the water and the ground meet at the south end of the pit is where this piece was found. It's about 30 feet below surface level where the shells are located.   Rucks Pit in Ft. Drum, Florida. Home of the most incredible calcite filled fossil shells I've ever seen. I'm fortunate to have visited there when the pit was open.          Thanks for looking and   ! ! ! GOOD LUCK  ! ! !           AUCTION TERMS, CONDITIONS, AND SHIPPING POLICIES:PLACING YOUR BID MEANS THAT YOU HAVE READ AND ACCEPTED THE AUCTIONS' TERMS, CONDITIONS AND SHIPPING POLICIES.     Bidders are expected to HONOR their bids.
